Capacitors nominally intended for operation in high-power applications including operations at mains AC voltages including power-factor correction and start-run capacitors for electric motors. These may be film or bipolar-electrolytic dielectrics and in metal (oil-filled) or plastic cans.
As a general rule, many capacitors with AC voltage ratings may be used in DC voltage applications with a benefit in higher working voltage than the AC rating (see manufacturers date for typical alternative ratings). The inverse applies to DC voltage rated capacitors which may be de-rated to an appropriate AC working voltage (according to manufacturers data).
Warning: many capacitors can store high energy and suitable saftey proceedures need to be observed in handling them (even after electrical supply is removed and while in storage).
