This series of audio-specific connectors originates with the 1/4" Tip- + Ring + Sleeve TRS phone-plugs and telephone patch plugs of yester-year and includes on-going variotaions in size (diameter) and number of ring-contacts. The Britich Post Office and various Military and avioncis agencies have adopted these in different guises as will as the computer and mobile phone technoloogies.
